Welcome

As a lifelong PC user, I decided to purchase a Mac for the first time. Let me just say I am loving and hating it at the same time. The only hating going on is that it takes me longer to figure things out as compared to using a PC. Here I will be talking about my trek down the path of technology.

Posting a video from You Tube

One of the things I think about in this class is access, especially because I am interpreter who has worked with deaf and hard of hearing people for most of my adult life. You may see me mention this a lot so bear with me; the majority of experience I have with children is either with my own or with deaf and hard of hearing children.

I wanted to post a video right out of the gate, so I picked a video of Marlee Matlin speaking to the FCC about broadband access for deaf and hard of hearing people. It's not the most interesting of messages, but if you want to see her in another capacity, she was on dancing with the stars. Marlee is a deaf actress, so I give her huge Kudos for going on a dance program when she doesn't hear the music. She can feel the vibration of some of it, but that takes guts. Anyway, here is the video of her comments and also one of her dancing.

  1. Thanks, for posting! This was a great video, the look on the parents faces when their children could hear was very emotional. What an inspiring lady she is!

  2. It's a very moving experience for sure. Not all children can be helped or want to be helped with hearing aids or technology. One of my friends used to throw his hearing aids in the toilet as a child because they created noise and nothing else. Here in the U.S we are lucky to have more access than other countries. Our deaf and hard of hearing people have choices that are not available in other places.

  3. How did you get your video to show up? The only way I know how is to post the link (hyperlink) then the view clicks on that. hmmm.

  4. Hi Sam,

Sorry I didn't get back with you sooner. When you go into YouTube you have to choose the button called "Embed" right below the video you want. Then it will highlight a text box for you to copy and paste into your blog. I tried to get screen shots in here for you to make it easier what I mean, but I am sort of new at this format. I will keep trying.
